Charles-

That $10,000 is a high number, but that is the maximum you should be charged by a big firm. Many firms, including http://westawaylaw.com are much more reasonable than that.

Kyle
We are in concept development with now funding. We feel the need to protect our ideas though. $10,000 dollars is a lot of money right now. Is there a packet where we could do a lot of the leg work and present to the legal end and save time and money. Trying to decide between L3C and For Benefit, looking for the most versatile to receive funding from all sectors.
We are in Arizona, if the legal structure doesn't fit this state could we file in California but reside in Arizona.

Thank you for your service and this Web site!

I am one of the founding investors in an L3C that now has 500 hundred members from across the country. The purpose of the L3C is tied to agriculture and the development of a textile industry. We formed in North Carolina and now are looking at a collaboration with North Carolina State College of Textiles.
In pursuing an L3C - which was done for numerous reasons - explaining the rationale and how it fits between traditional non-profit, tax-exempt orgs and private industry has been exceedingly difficult. The comments above are helpful, clearly written and specifically address some of the questions we are facing as we now moved to the next phase of our capitalization strategy. I would like to circulate this article to our membership and potential investors and would certainly credit the source. Thank you.
